Kaeleen Schattenklinge — The Rogue Between Two Worlds

8 August 2025

Meet Kaeleen Schattenklinge: half-elf rogue, spy and survivor, and the eyes in the shadow that see what honour walks past.

Who She Is

Kaeleen Schattenklinge — The Rogue Between Two Worlds

Kaeleen Schattenklinge is a roguehalf-elf, neutral, and urchin-turned-spy with manners polished enough for a noble salon and instincts sharp enough for the gutters that raised her. She learned young that survival is skill, not luck: pick the lock, read the room, vanish when the room turns.

An influential aristocrat saw her talent and taught her to move among the powerful — not merely to steal, but to navigate them. Kaeleen became master thief and informant, opening gilded doors with a smile and leaving with secrets. Her studded leather and paired daggers mark the double life: elegant lie and ruthless truth.

The city taught her first. The salon taught her second — how to wear courtesy like armour, how to listen when others perform honesty. She keeps both educations close. One keeps her alive. The other keeps her employed.

Personality

Kaeleen is clever, independent, secretive, and adaptable — traits that keep her alive and sometimes irritate companions who prefer straight lines. She is sarcastic under pressure, first through the door when the door should not exist, and cynical until evidence earns her trust.

Sneak Attack and Cunning Action are not showmanship; they are grammar — the language she speaks when honour would get everyone killed. She notices fresh candle wax, recent footsteps, eyes in the treeline. While Dorian charges and Elarion studies, Kaeleen already knows who lit the lights.

When she discovered her mentor plotting dark schemes, she turned against him and fled the city. The Queen’s missions are a chance to rebuild reputation on her own terms — and maybe leave the old life far enough behind to stop looking over her shoulder.

"Every dawn hides a new shadow."

That line belongs to a song not yet written when Kaeleen first rides to Valdoria — but she survives by pricing every bargain before the party pays.

Role in the Party

Kaeleen is periphery made useful. In the werewolf chase she hisses play when Dorian hesitates; in the Count’s hall she reads emptiness in the dancers’ faces before fangs show. She reads fresh candle wax in empty halls, eyes in the treeline before the howl, the cemetery wall before the midnight rose.

Her arc is belonging: from spy who trusts no one to companion who chooses this family of misfits on the Valdoria road.

Before the Story Begins

Kaeleen is the reminder that heroism is not only oaths and choruses — it is also the person who checks the lock, counts the exits, and tells the truth when the truth is ugly.
